Hello everyone. This is Goro. It's a bit long since the last update. I wish I could write and post an article on here every day. It seems I still can't get the knack of it. To make things even more complicated, writing it in English, which I'm not native in, is making it more difficult.
Today I would like to write about my first ever prize-winning work 'Blue Ennui' (Touch Of Blue Expo). I still feel it was as if a recent event, it's already three years gone since I was awarded.
Calling up my memories then, since an artist can submit as many artworks as he/she wants, I hurriedly painted two portraits (including Blue Ennui), two abstracts and one other piece then submitted them all together, at once. I finished painting Blue Ennui approx. 40 minutes, as far as I remember. We applicants were required to include blue color(s) in our work. I remember I had used gouache blue paints in all of my works.
This was the story then. However, to surprise you, I gave up painting for three years soon after I had submitted to the Blue Expo. There were several reasons for my giving up but the biggest one was just my poor sales. My goal was (and still is) to make a living only from the sales of my art but still been selling very little, and it kept on, things were like so and I'd completely stopped painting. Fortunately, I had several other things I had great passions for, such as music composing, writing poems and stories, self-studying English, etc...so I had been focused on those projects in those three blank years as a painter.
The award of the Touch Of Blue Expo had been long delayed due to the covid pandemic. It was held on January 2023 at last. The day coincided with the very date of my Eiken test (Japan's most popular English proficiency test). I was heading for the venue suffering from a hip joint severe pain and happened to know via my smartphone that I was the winner 1st place global fantasy category and 2nd place in the overall Touch Of Blue Expo. Honestly, I was very much surprised. Soon after that I received the prize money from the Zo Entertainment via PayPal, my heart was filled with joy and a sense of accomplishment.
Two months after the award, there was a ceremony using Zoom (I even attended the Zoom rehearsal) and I gave my clumsy English speech surrounded by winner artists from all over the globe, Zo staff and people related. Zo entertainment is a LA based company so, through the Zoom meetings I was able to absorb the atmosphere and vibes of LA and people in LA for the first time. That was a very meaningful, important experience for me.
To end this article, I need to write about my friend Mr. C.G.
Mr. C.G. is my rival painter living in England. He is a star artist there. I called him my rival but it's only my one-sided proclamation.
To tell the truth, my prize-winning work Blue Ennui was one with the particular style which I devised just to compete with that of Mr. C.G's. In fact, without him and his art style, I was unable to create my work Blue Ennui.
So, he is the top benefactor to my prize.
Thank you so much, C.G.
Right now, I have fully gotten back my passions for painting and is single-mindedly pursuing my dreams and goals as a painter once again.
See Ya
